TOPIC: THE BOOK OF LIFE

SUNDAY SCHOOL HYMN

1. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

2. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

4. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?

INTRODUCTION: The scripture establishes that there are two kind of eternity: eternal life and eternal damnation (Revelation 20:6). The Scripture also establishes that there are ‘Books’ are there is in ‘Book’; which is the ‘Book of life’ (Revelation 20:12).

This Book of life is different from ‘the Book of the living’ mentioned in Psalm 69:28. This ‘Book of life’ according to the Bible is the same with the ‘Lamb’s Book of life’ (Revelation 21:27).

God is the greatest Recorder and Rewarder. He knows those who are His and has their records. He also has the records of those who do not belong to him (2Timothy 2:19).

LESSON OUTLINES

1. THE ‘BOOKS’ VERSUS THE ‘BOOK OF LIFE’
2. WHO WILL NOT BE IN THE BOOK OF LIFE?

THE ‘BOOKS’ VERSUS THE ‘BOOK OF LIFE’

The ‘Book of life’ is described in Revelation 3:5 as the Book containing the set of names of those that will live forever with God in Heaven.

At the great white throne judgment, sinners will be judged according to their deeds in ‘the Books’ everyone who goes for this judgment does not have his name in the book of life and such is doomed for eternal damnation (Revelation 20:11-15).

The ‘Book of life’ contains the name of those who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus (Revelation 5:9; 21:27). Saints who have laboured faithfully like those referred to by Apostle Paul in (Philippians 4:3) have the assurance of being registered in the Book of life.

There is a proportionate reward for the works of the Saints whose names are written in the book of life (1Cor. 3:13-14).

To have your name written in the book of life, you mist be born again. However, for your name to remain, you must be sanctified, steadfast in the faith, faithfully serving the Lord (Heb. 12:14; 1Cor. 15:58) and remain in the Lord to the end (Matthew 10:22b, 1Thess. 4:14-16).

Any ‘believer’ that sins and refuses to repent or falls away from the faith (apostasy) will have his/her name blotted out of the Book of life (Hebrew 6:4-6; Revelation 3:5).

WHO WILL NOT BE IN THE BOOK OF LIFE?

First, the Bible says that anyone who refuses to accept Christ as lord and Saviour is already condemned (John 3:18; 5:24). People who indulge in the works of the flesh will not be found in the Book of life (Gal. 5:20-21).

The abominable, unbelieving, lairs, sorcerers, idolaters, etc. (Revelation 21:8, 27) will not have their names in the Book of life. (Romans 1:29-32; 1Timothy 1:9-11; Colossians 3:5-8; 1Corithians 6:9-10) tell us about sinful acts that can prevent people’s names from being in the Book of life.

CONCLUSION
It is true that being born again is the prerequisite for eternal life but we must work out our salvation with fear and trembling (Philippians 2:12). Our greatest joy should be that our names are in the book of life. We must make Heaven our priority in all we do (Luke 10:20).

QUESTIONS

Who again will not be found in the book of life?
Those who have left the gosoel and the ways of our Lord Jesus and stand on their own worldly gospel because of useless worldly things will not be found in the book of life.
Repentance is now, tomorrow may be too late.
May we christians of today never be like a hunter’s dog that refuses to listen to the whistle of his master iJMN.May pride never send us to hell iJMN.
