MEMORY VERSE: And they shall call them, The holy people The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken. Isaiah 62:12

BIBLE TEXT: ISAIAH 62:1-12

[1] For Zion’s sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth.

[2] And the Gentiles shall see thy righteousness, and all kings thy glory: and thou shalt be called by a new name, which the mouth of the LORD shall name.

[3] Thou shalt also be a crown of glory in the hand of the LORD, and a royal diadem in the hand of thy God.

[4] Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: but thou shalt be called Hephzibah, and thy land Beulah: for the LORD delighteth in thee, and thy land shall be married.

[5] For as a young man marrieth a virgin, so shall thy sons marry thee: and as the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, so shall thy God rejoice over thee.

[6] I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, which shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,

[7] And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

[8] The LORD hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured:

[9] But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.

[10] Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.

[11] Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.

[12] And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.

LESSON INTRODUCTION: Jerusalem was supposed to be the place of which the nations would say, “Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in His paths” (Isaiah 2:3).

But as at the time this prophesy was given by Isaiah, Jerusalem was no longer the city sought after as in the days of Solomon when the queen of Sheba came all the way to Jerusalem just to meet Solomon and also to see the great city.

A prophesy was later given in Isaiah 62:1-12 that, just as Jerusalem, having been despoiled of her beauty by her enemies, and for a long time was forsaken and unworthy to be called a city desired to be visited by men, her glory shall return and shall be an attraction to all lands, and the joy of the whole earths; no longer given up to the invasions of the enemy.

That is what the Lord promised, that she shall be called sought out, that is, a special object of God’s care and a city not forsaken, the very opposite of her former name which was “forsaken”.

TEXT REVIEW: Isaiah 62:1-12
i. Never will you be called “The forsaken city” or “The desolate land”
ii. The Savior is coming.

LESSON OUTLINE:
GOD NEVER ABANDONS HIS FAITHFUL SERVANTS
– Psalm 37:25 says “I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.”

– Hebrews 13:5b says “for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. ”

– Joshua 1:5 “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as l was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. ”

– Psalm 37:28 “For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.”

Other Bible verses that talked about this are listed below:
– Genesis 28:15.
– Deuteronomy 31:6.
– 1 Chronicles 28:20.
– 1 Kings 8:57.
– Isaiah 7:14.
– Matthew 1:23.
– Matthew 28:20.
– Luke 22:3 1-32.

LESSON ACTIVITIES: Why was Jerusalem forsaken?

SUMMARY: You can never be forsaken.

CONCLUSION: God never forsake His people, He never leaves us to fight alone and He never abandons us. Isaiah 62:12 “And they shall call them, The holy people, The redeemed of the LORD: and thou shalt be called, Sought out, A city not forsaken.”

Here, the prophet is saying that when the end of this world age draws to a close, those who are strong in God’s truth will be sought out. Just as Paul was and even as Jesus was.
