OPEN HEAVENS FOR TEENS 13 NOVEMBER 2019 POWER OF NAMES

MEMORISE: Neither shall thy name any more be called Abram, but thy name shall be Abraham; for a father of many nations have I made thee. Genesis 17:5

READ: ECCLESIASTES 7:1

1. A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.

A name is a word by which a person is addressed. A name carries plenty of power in it. It often defines the future. Take Jabez for instance; the name Jabez means “Because I bare him in sorrow”. Jabez was living in sorrow even though the Bible says he was more honourable than all his brethren.

You see, you will become what you are called. You have to understand this and decide not to answer to names you don’t want to become. Calmly but boldly tell people who call you names or nicknames that mean negative things that they shouldn’t call you those names anymore.

If they don’t stop rather than answer to such names, ignore them till they call you your right name. Don’t just answer whatever people call you because you will eventually become what you answer to.

You can also ask people to call you nicknames that represent why you want to become, like Professor, Young Billionaire, Pastor er cetera.

KEY POINT:
Don’t shy away from telling people to stop calling you negative names. Names are powerful.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: EZEKIEL 4-6, HEBREWS 10:1-23

HYMN 8

1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

3. To all life thou givest to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.

4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render; o help us to see;
‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.

5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
