OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS 31 JANUARY 2019 – DECISIONS

MEMORISE: I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live: Deuteronomy 30:19

Read: Deuteronomy 30:16-19

16 [If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God which] I command you today, to love the Lord your God, to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments and His statutes and His ordinances, then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land into which you go to possess.

17 But if your [mind and] heart turn away and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them,

18 I declare to you today that you shall surely perish, and you shall not live long in the land which you pass over the Jordan to enter and possess.

19 I call heaven and earth to witness this day against you that I have set before you life and death, the blessings and the curses; therefore choose life, that you and your descendants may live

MESSAGE:

Who you become tomorrow will be based on the decisions you make today. God does not force anything on you, He gives you the free will to choose between good and bad, but he advises that you choose good.

Let God’s word guide every decision you make; whatever the Holy Bible is against, decide not to do it, and whatever the Holy Bible is for, decide to do it.

The decision to have a boyfriend or a girlfriend is a bad decision that can lead to unwanted pregnancy and tarnished future. The decision to break school rules is a bad decision that can lead to expulsion.

When the temptation to make a bad decision comes, tell yourself, “I refuse to be a fool, I will choose the right decision”. If at any time, you are not sure which choice is right or wrong, ask God-fearing elders around you or better still, ask God Himself and He will tell you the best decision to make. Joseph made the right decision by refusing the sexual advances of a woman and he ended up becoming a great leader. If you make decisions based on God’s word, all your dreams will come true.

KEY POINT: Think about the future before making any decision.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Exodus 22-24 Matthew 20:17-34

Hymn 2

1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for theres no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
