OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS 20 MARCH 2019 – LESSONS FROM DAVID

MEMORISE: And when he had removed him, he raised him up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfill all my will. Acts 13:22

Read: 1 Samuel 17:12-51

MESSAGE:

One of the major lessons to learn from David is obedience. David was the youngest of the sons of Jesse, yet when he was sent to the back of the wilderness to watch after his father’s sheep, he didn’t point out the fact that his elder siblings were better equipped for the job, he simply obeyed, and didn’t just obey, he took his duties watching over the sheep very seriously. Open Heavens 20th March 2019

Also, when he was asked to take food to his brothers at the battle field, he obeyed. He didn’t remind his father that he was already busy watching over the sheep as he was told to do.

As a teenager, it is very important to be obedient to the instructions given to you by authorities in your life. Those instructions will build you up and set you up for success. If David hadn’t been obedient to his father’s instructions to watch the sheep in the desert, he wouldn’t have had the experience and boldness he needed to fight Goliath. And if he hadn’t obeyed the instruction to take food to the battle field, he wouldn’t have had the opportunity to kill Goliath and eventually become King.

PRAYER POINT:

Father, please give me the grace to obey the authorities in my life in Jesus’ name.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Joshua 1-3
Luke 1:57-80

Hymn 2
1. When we walk with the Lord in the light of His Word,
What a glory He sheds on our way!
While we do His good will,
He abides with us still,
And with all who will trust and obey.

Refrain:
Trust and obey, for theres no other way
To be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.

2. Not a shadow can rise, not a cloud in the skies,
But His smile quickly drives it away;
Not a doubt or a fear, not a sigh or a tear,
Can abide while we trust and obey.

3. Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.

4. But we never can prove the delights of His love
Until all on the altar we lay;
For the favor He shows, for the joy He bestows,
Are for them who will trust and obey.

5. Then in fellowship sweet we will sit at His feet,
Or we’ll walk by His side in the way;
What He says we will do, where He sends we will go;
Never fear, only trust and obey.
