SIGNS THAT YOU NEED A PERSONAL RETREAT

SIGNS THAT YOU NEED A PERSONAL RETREAT

As a believer it is important to be able to identify the times and seasons when you need a personal retreat. There are some clear signs that you need a personal retreat and knowing how to recognize those signs is key.

A personal retreat is a time taken to take some steps back and reflect, pray, study God’s Word and listen to Him only. Retreats are awesome times of fellowship and can span from a few days to weeks.

A retreat is important because you are likely to hear God better when distractions are put off and your mind is exclusively on God and His Word. You’re likely to come out of a retreat more refreshed, energized, purposeful and in love with God.

There are times when you should initiate a personal retreat for yourself without any particular reason. But other times, you will see clear signs that you need a personal retreat and you should not hesitate to go on one.

When you see certain bodily signs, they point to the fact that you may need exercise, medication, rest etc. In the same way, when we see certain signs in our spiritual lives, they indicate that our spiritual lives need reenergizing.

1. WHEN SEASONS ARE START OR END

This varies and can be the beginning or end of a new year, the start of a new age, new job, marriage, relocation, etc.

It is not advisable to enter into seasons without spending quality time with God and away from distractions. Even if those decisions and seasons are the will of God.

2. CARNALITY

If you’re becoming more carnal than spiritual, it means that your flesh is being more fed than your spirit and the way to fix that is to cut off distractions (food to the flesh) and go on a retreat to spend time with God and rejuvenate your spirit man.

If your faith is reducing, you’re being drawn to sin, you are less loving and tolerant to people, etc, they are clear signs that you need a personal retreat.

3. YOU FEEL A LOT OF NEGATIVE EMOTIONS

Tiredness, anxiety, depression, cluelessness, confused, overwhelmed, etc

These are signs that you need a personal retreat but they are also signs that you should reach out to trusted and wise persons close to you for help. Cut down on distractions and interaction with negative people and prioritize your time with God and people of God for that season. No one is above feeling this way, because life has a way of getting to people. However, you shouldn’t remain in that state.
