7 THINGS TO STAY AWAY FROM IN CHURCH

7 THINGS TO STAY AWAY FROM IN CHURCH

The church is the gathering of believers. A place dedicated to God for worship and sharing God’s Word. The church began after Jesus Christ physically departed from the earth and sent the Holy Spirit.

Prior to then, God’s people gathered in Jerusalem to hear His Word. Now, the church is wide and has taken roots in different parts of the world. God’s people can call upon Him from any nation and any territory.

However, as beautiful as the church is, believers must be very watchful and careful to avoid certain things that may be found amongst them.
The Apostles of the early church warned about some of these things and it is important that we be reminded other.

1. BEING DISTRACTED

This happens in different ways in church; being consumed in activities around the church that you don’t listen to the word, speaking with your seat neighbor or friend during the service, going through your phone and social media, and so on.
These are all distractions that can make you miss the word of God for you that day. It is important to remain focused in God’s house.

2. FIGHTING

As unbelievable as it sounds, sometimes, issues arise amongst brethren in the church that leads to disagreements and ultimately, fightings.
This is unpleasant and should not be found amongst God’s people or in the church. You must be careful to avoid things that may lead to fighting and chaos in the house of God.
“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,” 1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.”‭‭ Matthew‬ ‭18:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

3. FAMILIARITY

It is easy to get familiar with the routine in church and the word of God. Unfortunately this has lots of disadvantages as it makes your Christian life unfruitful. It is impossible to be blessed when you have become familiar with the servant of God, the vessels of God, and the Word of God. Always approach every meeting in God’s house with excitement and expectation.

“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” ‭‭James‬ ‭1:21‬ ‭KJV‬‬

4. BACKBITING

Slander, gossip and all forms of backbiting must be avoided at all costs. These are tools of the enemy to attack believers.
It is easy to fall into this trap and find yourself slandering a fellow brother in the Lord. Being watchful will prevent this.

“LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? Who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart. He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, Nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour.” ‭‭Psalm‬ ‭15:1-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

5. THEFT

Stealing is a sin and should never be done anywhere. However, stealing from people in church and from the church herself is even more highly discouraged. This should seem obvious, unfortunately, it has occurred before and needs to be preached against. People in charge of God’s money in church must be found faithful. Remember Ananias and Sapphira. Remember Judas, Jesus’ treasurer. They were not found faithful. Exodus‬ ‭20:15‬ says “Thou shalt not steal.”

6. CONSPIRACY

Unfortunately, this has happened many times in the church. Rebellion and conspiracy of any sort must be avoided because it never goes well.
The seed that leads to this is not of God. It is of the enemy and the plan is to cause discord amongst brethren. Do not join in any group that seeks to conspire against someone.

“For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man? I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ye are God’s husbandry, ye are God’s building.” ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭3:4-9‬ ‭KJV‬‬

7. ENVY

Everything done in the house of God is ultimately to the Glory of God. Regardless of who does more or who is called upon more often, we must be satisfied and comfortable in our own assignments. It is important to flee from any form of covetousness and be genuinely happy for people who receive any form of blessing from the Lord. A man can receive nothing.

“Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speakings,” ‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭2:1‬ ‭KJV‬‬
