At the beginning of this year, our father, Daddy E A Adeboye announced The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) annual fasting in a statement where he said “The annual RCCG fast will be starting tomorrow.
The fast will be of two types as stated in the flier. The normal fast for 50 days and the marathon fast for 21 days.
It’s our prayer that God will strengthen us this period and answer our prayers according to His will in Jesus Name.
The prayer points would be available on all social media platforms”
And since the 11th of January, members of RCCG all over the world and other members of the body of Christ have commenced the annual fast, waiting upon the Lord, and seeking his face in fasting and prayer. Fasting is a period of self discipline when you consecrate yourself and deny your flesh of certain desires. The aim of fasting is not to punish you or make you uncomfortable, it is to set your spirit in a posture where it can commune and hear from God without distractions.
The period of fasting is a period is to press into God deeper and seek his face. Fasting comes with a lot of benefits. As the RCCG fast continues, be committed and encouraged to press forward and continue fasting because no one seeks God in vain. Below are 3 rewards and benefits of Biblical fasting.
Benefits of Fasting
1. Fasting draws you closer to God.
When we fast and deny our flesh of it’s carnal desires, our spirit’s sensitivity is heightened and we are more inclined to towards spiritual things.
We become more attentive to God and draw near to him.
2. Fasting brings revelation
Fasting is a time to thoroughly feast on the Bible and study scripture. And because of the quietness of your heart, the Holy Spirit will interpret the scriptures to you and grant you revelation.
After Jesus fasted for fourty days, and Satan came to tempt him, Jesus was able to overcome him with revelation from the scripture.
3. Fasting brings blessings and deliverance.
All through the Bible, when God’s people fasted, they received amazing blessings from God. Every fast is followed by benefits and rewards. God releasess blessings and deliverance upon his people.
More so, certain battles in life can not be overcome except by fasting and prayer.
Matthew 17:21 Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
