Thy friend friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.
3. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.
5. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds be black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.
6. O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
OPENING PRAYER:
Father, mold me to suit your purpose.
BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Samuel 16:11-13
11. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither.
12. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.
13. Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
MEMORY VERSE:
“O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the Lord . Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.” Jeremiah 18:6
LESSON INTRODUCTION:
A sculptor is an artist who carves or molds figures, designs in wood, stone, clay, etc.
When a sculptor want to carve something out, he looks at a piece of wood and begins to see what nobody else can see in it.
God is the master sculptor. In today’s lesson, we shall be looking at how God can transform us from ‘logs of wood’ into a finished product.
TEXT REVIEW : 1SAMUEL 16:11-13 – “FROM LOG OF WOOD TO MASTERPIECE”
i. God has absolute reserve on which wood to work upon as a sculptor. 1 Sam. 16:3-6.
ii. Other wood may look alike, they may not possess the desired quality needed for a particular design. 1 Sam. 16:7-10.
iii. God by His spirit seeks for the appropriate species and waits patiently until He gets it. 1 Sam. 16:12.
iv. God, in His characteristic power, had commenced the process of shaping David long before his anointing. He had fulfilled all the conditions and requirements to lead God’s people as king. 1 Sam. 17:34-37.
v. The last stage of the sculpting process is polishing with oil. This is the stage of the anointing. Thus David was transformed from a shepherd boy, at the back of the forest, to a king on the throne. 1 Sam. 16:11-13. This can be you too.
TWO LESSON OUTLINES

LESSON OUTLINE 2 :THE PROCESSING STATES
To transform a piece of wood to a finished product, the sculptor (this time, God) passes through the following stages. Also Read – Open Heavens 3 May 2019
i. The sculptor fetches the wood from the bush by cutting the tree down and carries it home/factory. This is the similitude of the salvation stage. Exo. 3:1-2; 1 Sam. 16:11; Judges 6:11-12.
ii. The sculptor saw off (peeled) the back of the wood to remove the unwanted part. This is the sanctification stage. The experience of Saul of Tarsus. Acts 9:1-8. Click Here To Read – Open Heaven 5th May 2019
iii. The sculptor uses hammer and chisel to shape and design the wood. This is the role of the word of God which chops off the unnecessary pieces. Like anger, pride, covetousness, etc. Jer. 23:29.
iv. The 4th stage is the smothering of the rough edges with sand paper. It is sharpening the rough and the blunt to specification. John 15:2.
v. The 5th stage is the polishing of the masterpiece to look attractive and desirable. This is the role of anointing through the Holy Spirit. 2 Sam. 2:4.
