PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE:
Leader should ask members for any sin they know parent commit on behalf of their children.

MEMORY VERSE: If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly. Titus 1:6

BIBLE PASSAGE: 1 Timothy 3:2-13. Titus 1:4-9. Acts 21:7-10

1 TIMOTHY 3:2-13

2 A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;

3 Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

4 One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity;

5 (For if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)

6 Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

7 Moreover he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

8 Likewise [must] the deacons [be] grave, not doubletongued, not given to much wine, not greedy of filthy lucre;

9 Holding the mystery of the faith in a pure conscience.

10 And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being [found] blameless.

11 Even so [must their] wives [be] grave, not slanderers, sober, faithful in all things.

12 Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

13 For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Titus 1: 4-9

4 To Titus, [mine] own son after the common faith: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ our Saviour.

5 For this cause left I thee in Crete, that thou shouldest set in order the things that are wanting, and ordain elders in every city, as I had appointed thee:

6 If any be blameless, the husband of one wife, having faithful children not accused of riot or unruly.

7 For a bishop must be blameless, as the steward of God; not selfwilled, not soon angry, not given to wine, no striker, not given to filthy lucre;

8 But a lover of hospitality, a lover of good men, sober, just, holy, temperate;

9 Holding fast the faithful word as he hath been taught, that he may be able by sound doctrine both to exhort and to convince the gainsayers.

Acts 21: 7-9

7 And when we had finished [our] course from Tyre, we came to Ptolemais, and saluted the brethren, and abode with them one day.

8 And the next [day] we that were of Paul’s company departed, and came unto Caesarea: and we entered into the house of Philip the evangelist, which was [one] of the seven; and abode with him.

9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

10 And as we tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:
God expects every Christian to grow to maturity even to the full measure of the standard of Christ. Ephesians 4:13-14. He expects us not to be spiritually fed with milk longer than necessary as babies in Christ but to progress to feeding on strong meat.

Hebrews 5:12-14. He also expects from those that would lead His people His people that they would meet certain requirements. 2 Timothy 2:21

TEXT REVIEW: 1 Timothy 3:2-13. Titus 1:4-9. Acts 21:7-10

i. There are guidelines for churches to select leaders

ii. If any body aspires a leadership task, he aspires a noble position.

iii. To have gift and qualities and not take on leadership positions may be disobedience.

iv. Leadership comes with responsibility

v. Every leader should be tested before given an official position.

i. A bishop then must be blameless

ii. Vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach.

iii. Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre.

iv. But patient, not a brawler, not covetous

v. One that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (For if a man knows not how to rule his own house, how shall him take care of the Church of God?)

vi. Not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he falls into the condemnation of the devil.

vii. Moreover, he must have a good report of them which are without; lest he fall into reproach and the snare of the devil.

xii. Let the deacons be the husbands of one wife, ruling their children and their own houses well.

B. OTHER SCRIPTURES SET THE SAME STANDARDS: 1. God wants leaders or elders appointed to direct His children aright and He would not compromise on His standards. Titus 1:4-9.

9 And the same man had four daughters, virgins, which did prophesy.

10 And as we tarried [there] many days, there came down from Judaea a certain prophet, named Agabus.
