OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS MONDAY 12TH MARCH 2018: THE NAME OF JESUS 1
MEMORISE: Wherefore God also hath highly exalted Him, and given Him a name which is
above every name: Philippians 2:9
Please read: Philippians 2:9-11
MESSAGE:
The name of a thing or person carries that person’s identity. When you hear a name, the
next thing that comes to your mind is everything you know about the bearer of the name.
For example, if someone shouts ‘lion!’ around you,
you are likely to jump off your seat and break into a run. Likewise the Name of Jesus carries
His identity, power and authority anywhere it is
mentioned.
This is why the Bible says we should not call His Name in vain because His Name is not ordinary. Simply saying out loud the Name of
Jesus can turn a disaster into a testimony.
There was a boy whose father was a top Muslim cleric. This boy met Christ and was so devoted
to God that other Muslim clerics in the area saw him as a threat. They got his father to do a
charm to harm the boy. One day, his father called his name, and as culturally expected of every Yoruba child, he answered “sir”.
Immediately he answered, he saw a huge stone coming towards him with speed, he did not have the time to pray, he did not have the time to call
for help, all he had the time to do was to shout the Name JESUS and he was saved from that
impending doom.
PRAYER POINT:
I am saved from every impending doom on my path in Jesus’ name!
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Deuteronomy 17-19
Mark 14:1-25
Hymn 10
1. What a friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Ev’rything to God in prayer!
2. Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged;
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
Can we find a Friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our ev’ry weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
3. Are we weak and heavy laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Saviour, still our refuge,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield You;
You wilt find a solace there.
