OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL FOR TEENS 26 JANUARY 2019: FULFILLING PROMISES

MEMORISE: But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than this cometh of evil. Matthew 5:37

Read: Numbers 30:2

2 If a man vows a vow to the Lord or swears an oath to bind himself by a pledge, he shall not break and profane his word; he shall do according to all that proceeds out of his mouth.

MESSAGE:

When you make a promise to anyone, ensure that you do your best to remember and fulfil that promise. It is difficult to trust anyone that does not fulfil his promises

In ensuring that you always fulfil your promises, you must first make sure that you are not too quick to make promises; don’t be like Jephthah who promised God that if he wins the battle against the Ammonites, he would sacrifice whoever comes out of his house first to the Lord, but unfortunately, it was his only child that came out first. So, carefully think on your words before you say them. Don’t let anyone pressure you into making a promise. Before you make a promise to someone, be sure that you have the resources needed to fulfil that promise first.

If it so happens that something unavoidable came up that made it difficult or impossible for you to fulfil that promise, ensure that you explain to the person you promised and apologize for not being able to fulfil your promise. This attitude will make it easy for people to trust you and help you to build integrity as you grow to become an adult.

KEY POINT:

Don’t make promises that you can’t fulfil.

Hymn 8

1. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.

2. Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above,
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

3. To all life thou givest to both great and small;
In all life Thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish, but nought changeth Thee.

4. Great Father of Glory, pure Father of Light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render; o help us to see;
‘Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee.

5. Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes
Most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of days,
Almighty, victorious, Thy great name we praise.
