PROPHECIES OF JESUS COMING IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

PROPHECIES OF JESUS COMING IN THE OLD TESTAMENT

The Bible is a prophetic Book that contains deep mysteries and revelation. No matter how many times we read the Bible from the beginning to the end, we can never fully exhaust it and dig out all of its treasures. This is why we must never get tired of studying scriptures. Because God has a lot of blessings, revelation, and prophecies in it for us.

When studying scripture, it is important to know that the old Testament and the new testament are connected and all part of God’s grand plan. Some scriptures in the old testament are linked to Jesus in the new testament and today we’ll share some of these amazing connections with you.

1. GARDEN OF EDEN

“And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living. Also for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭3:20-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God clothing Adam and his wife with tunics of skin (most likely after slaying a lamb to use its skin) after the fall can be linked to God’s ultimate plan to use the blood of the lamb (His Son) to save man from the consequences of his fall.

Further in the old Testament, we see God giving His people the commandment of slaying animals for remission of their sins. This was a temporary solution linked to the ultimate solution – Christ’s death for our redemption.

Hebrews 9:13-10:18 KJV

13 For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:

14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?

15 And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

2. ABRAHAM AND ISAAC

“So Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on Isaac his son; and he took the fire in his hand, and a knife, and the two of them went together.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God asking Abraham to sacrifice his only son, Isaac, was prophetic. A symbol of how God would give His only begotten son to save the world.

“Then Abraham lifted his eyes and looked, and there behind him was a ram caught in a thicket by its horns. So Abraham went and took the ram, and offered it up for a burnt offering instead of his son. And Abraham called the name of the place, The-Lord-Will-Provide; as it is said to this day, “In the Mount of the Lord it shall be provided.” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭22:13-14‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

God eventually provided a ram (an adult lamb) for Abraham to sacrifice. This is a type of Jesus Christ who would be sacrificed for us. The ram caught “in a thicket by its horns.” can also be likened to the crown of thorns placed on Jesus head during His passion.

3. PSALMS 22

In the book of Psalms, David wrote some things that were prophetic about Jesus Christ. We’ll be looking at Psalms 22 today.

In verse 1, He used the exact same words Jesus used on the cross of Calvary “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”.

In verse 8, he said “All those who see Me ridicule Me; They shoot out the lip, they shake the head, saying, “He trusted in the Lord, let Him rescue Him; Let Him deliver Him, since He delights in Him!” ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭22:7-8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

This was the same way Jesus Christ was mocked on the cross of Calvary where people mocked Him and said “You saved people. Save yourself now”

Lastly, in verse 16, David said “They pierced My hands and My feet; ‭‭Psalms‬ ‭22:16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I’m sure David didn’t know He was prophesying about the Christ. Jesus Christ feet and hands were pierced. Physically, David’s hands and legs were not pierced. He thought he was just saying it as an idiom or proverb but he was actually prophesying.

David may have thought He was just crying out to God due to His circumstances, He didn’t realize that what He was saying was very prophetic.

4. JACOB AND ESAU

“Then Rebekah took the choice clothes of her elder son Esau, which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son. And she put the skins of the kids of the goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.” Genesis‬ ‭27:15-16‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Jacob had to put on the skin of kids and goats so He could appear to be like his older brother – Isaac before He could come before His father Isaac for blessings. This can be likened to how we as believers can now come before God under the covering of Jesus Christ (Our older brother – the first of the begotten). Now we can put on Christ like a clothe as admonished in Romans‬ ‭13:14‬ ‭“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ..” and come before God not out of deception but out of God’s Love in making us become one with His Son.
‭‭

5. BLOOD ON THE LINTEL

“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year. You may take it from the sheep or from the goats. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it. Then they shall eat the flesh on that night; roasted in fire, with unleavened bread and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.” ‭‭Exodus‬ ‭12:5-8‬ ‭

In Egypt, God told the Israelites to kill a lamb and put the blood on the lintel of their houses. He also asked them to eat the meat – Just as Jesus Christ, the lamb of God came and gave His disciples bread to eat signifying His flesh and He asked us to keep taking the communion in remembrance of Him.

God’s word is loaded when read with the Holy Spirit and revelation. There are many other scriptures in the old testament that directly link to the new testament.
